Gaze. Wonder. Dream. – The Viaduct, the Hills, a Home from Home

Experience Some of the Darkest Skies in Wales

Far from busy roads, towns, and city lights, Llanerchindda enjoys some of the darkest and clearest night skies in Mid Wales. Nestled within the rolling landscapes of the Bran Valley and surrounded by open countryside, the property offers exceptional conditions for stargazing, astronomy, and astrophotography throughout the year.

As daylight fades and the valley settles into silence, the night sky begins to reveal itself in extraordinary detail. Thousands of stars become visible to the naked eye, constellations stretch across the horizon, and on clear nights the Milky Way can be seen arching overhead. It is a reminder of just how spectacular the natural world can be when viewed away from light pollution.

Whether you are an experienced astronomer, an enthusiastic photographer, or simply someone who enjoys standing beneath a star-filled sky, Llanerchindda provides a truly unforgettable dark sky experience.

Stargazing in the Heart of Wales

The elevated rural setting of Llanerchindda creates ideal conditions for observing the night sky. With very little artificial light in the surrounding area, visibility is often exceptional, allowing guests to enjoy celestial events that are difficult to see elsewhere.

Throughout the year, visitors can observe seasonal constellations, meteor showers, planetary alignments, lunar events, and deep-sky objects. Even without specialist equipment, the clarity of the night sky can be remarkable, making stargazing one of the most rewarding experiences available during a stay.

Many guests find that simply stepping outside after dinner and looking up becomes one of the highlights of their visit.

Astronomy Experiences

Llanerchindda is ideally placed for astronomy enthusiasts, with facilities and conditions suitable for both casual observation and more advanced stargazing sessions.

We work in partnership with Dark Sky Telescope Hire, offering guests the opportunity to hire a 150mm Skywatcher Dobsonian telescope during their stay.

This easy-to-use telescope provides excellent views of planets, star clusters, and deep sky objects, making it ideal for beginners and experienced observers alike.

The telescope comes with full instructions and regularly updated sky notes to help you navigate the night sky and get the most from your experience. Guidance is also available from the Llanerchindda team on the best locations around the site for setting up equipment, ensuring optimal viewing conditions.

For those who prefer a guided experience, astronomy talks and stargazing evenings can also be arranged, offering laser-guided tours of the night sky along with telescope viewing sessions.
